Frequently asked questions
Why would I want to use cloth nappies?
Cloth nappies have many advantages over their disposable relatives, and dont result in that much more work. For example, you can save approximatly $3000 per child using modern cloth nappies, all for pressing a button on the washing machine and hanging them up every second day. You are also reducing the chemicals your baby is exposed to, reducing the health risks associated with these chemicals. And of course they are better for the envionment. Plus, I think they are very cute!
Do you sell anything?
No. I dont sell any nappies myself. There are plenty of stores to buy nappies from, and they have a wide variety to choose from. I just let people borrow nappies. This way I can give advice on fit and absorbency without a conflict of interest.
What area do you service?
I am in Melbourne, in the city of Moreland. To make it more affordable I am not offering a postal service at this stage. If you are in Melbourne and willing to travel to pick up the nappies and drop them off then I can meet you in the city center, or somewhere near Brunswick. If you live in the City of Moreland, City of Yarra, City of Darebin, or the City of Melbourne I will come to you to drop off your nappies and pick them up. This allows me to demonstarte use and discuss with you any concerns you might have.
Can you tell me more about cloth nappies?
Yes, I am able to come out to parents groups and play groups to answer questions and show you the different types of nappies avaliable. Please contact me to arrange a suitable time.
Are the nappies cleaned between people?
YES! Even though the people that hire the nappies are responsible for cleaning them as if they were their own I still get them professionally laundered between users. This means the nappies you get are clean and disinfected.
What else do I need to try cloth nappies?
Nothing, we provide everything. In your nappy pack you will be provided with a nappy bucket, nappies, covers, liners, care instructions. I am currently looking into supplying a little squirt for those interested as well.
What do I do if my baby gets nappy rash?
Nappy rash can be caused by any things. You need to treat the rash, but also prevent it coming back.
To treat nappy rash:
- only use water with the cloth wipes (supplied)
- dry bum before putting a new nappy on
- allow some nappy free time everyday
- if using a petroleum based barrier cream ensure the fleece liner (supplied) is covering the nappy. If barrier creams build up on your nappy they will become water resistant.
Common causes of nappy rash:
- teething can cause terrible nappy rash. If this is the case try to change more often until the teeth are through
- sensitivity to laundry detergents if you are washing with too much detergent or it is too strong. Try to reduce the amount to half the specified amount,or change detergents to a gentle alternative.
